Shikenjanski played alongside other great Gophers like Melvin Newborn, Willie Burton and Richard Coffey. As Rob Litt wrote at the GopherHole in a "Where are they now" on Shik, we all loved the Rockton, Illinois native for his long hair and "in part because of the memory of hearing Dick Jankowski enthusiastically saying “SHIKENJANSKI.”
Below are two pictures of Shik that appear to me to be from his earliest days at the U, judging by his lack of shaggy hair. Special thanks to Jeff Keiser, creative director for University of Minnesota athletics and Senior Associate Athletic Director Tom Wistrcill for doing me a favor by providing these images.
I'm going to find a way to incorporate at least one of these pictures into the site. So, if any of you have any recommendations on how to use them, please let me know.

Other than that, I hope everyone has a good weekend and that my drive back from Happy Valley isn't a bitter one. Ski-U-Mah!
This one makes me nervous; it's the kind of game the Gophers really need to win this year.
ReplyDeleteThat's exactly right. The Gophers need to finish 4th in the conference to get an NCAA bid. That can happen so long as they win games like this on the road.
ReplyDeleteFYI Jon: I rearranged the order of the last two posts and since blogger is stupid it kept the comment with the wrong entry. They should really just allow us to click and drag posts to the location we want.
ReplyDeleteIf Gophers win the B10 tourney...it won't matter.
ReplyDeleteI think Tubby factor gets Gophers a bid with 20+ W (21 or 22).
He got in (NCAA) with similar # W at Tulsa in 92 & 93, Georgia in 96, and UK in 01-02-06-07.
