Offseason And Annoucement

Since the long off season is upon us until Tim Brewster's Gophers suit up this fall, the amount of posting is going to decrease at least a little at PJS. I'm going to take the rest of this week off and reinvigorate myself. Many weeks I put a lot of time in here and during the off season I plan to take some time off of posting here or there.

Next week I plan to start a Year in Review on Tubby Smith's Gophers. I'm looking forward to that.

But I also have an announcement and I want to pose a question to those of you who frequent PJS. In the near future (hopefully) I'll be launching a new Golden Gophers Web site along with a partner. The site will be less aesthetically nauseating as a blogspot blog and we hope it will provide all of you with consistent and expansive coverage. In short, we're going to report so the Star Tribune doesn't have to!

We're going to take a professional approach to the new site. I formerly worked as a journalist, so we'll shy away from too many pictures of Erin Andrews (I reserve the right to gawk on special occasions). We also hope, in time, to do some actual reporting. Again, this is an effort to supplement what we see as a job that is not being performed well by our Minneapolis and St. Paul newspapers.

But my question for all of you is this: What features, what components, what widgets, etc... would you like to see on a new site? Also, would you like to see more coverage of non-revenue sports? I have some interest in women's basketball. My partner has some interest in men's baseball, for instance. Does that type of coverage interest you? I've hesitated to cover non-revenue sports here, because there never seems to be much interest.

Anyway, this is your chance to shape what will hopefully, eventually be a go-to source for Golden Gophers news an opinion. Fire away.

And, yes, unfortunately this means that PJS will find its way into the Internet dust bin sometime in the near future. **Tears**

I think it's a great idea. It will be some work to keep it going and I'd be happy to help out. I keep tabs on a lot of Gopher athletics and I have athletes from my area in football, baseball and a few other non-revenue sports. I can shoot some pictures while I'm at those events.

Next year I think I could do a lot more with hockey, including stories on players and future recruits.

PS Brewster is having a news conference this afternoon to talk about spring practice. Chip S. should have a good scoop on things, but I can post some stuff that I get from my media alerts.

You really should just write for GopherHole. I believe they have the largest audience of any of the MN sites, and easily the most active message boards, the local media look it over daily, the coaches all monitor it and the recruits and parents do as well. If you want to have an impact and continue with your passion, contact GH.

Thanks for the suggestion, anon, but I very much enjoy the freedom the blog provides. It's true that GH has a considerable audience. As the go-to forum for Gophers sports, that's to be expected.

But I believe a blog allows information to be disseminated differntly and effectively. I also think what GopherHole does and what I aim to do are completely different.

I like GH a lot, but I want to be part of a different type of UofM coverage.

Congratulations PJS, the first move from blogspot to an actual website is exhilarating. I made the move just recently myself and it makes a world of difference. Blogspot while they've been instrumental in my start is very limited and you'll enjoy the freedom an actual website offers. I look forward to reading your posts in the future. But as for suggestions, I find that widgets just clutter a page. The only one I ever found useful was the Big Ten bloggers feed reader. But good luck and I look forward to your new home.

Thanks, NWO. Your new site looks very nice, btw.

I'm going to miss my daily check on PJS... Please keep us up to date on Gopher wrestling. It is one of the top 3 programs in the nation. Good Luck.

Best of luck. PJS blog is one of the better blogs I've seen, much like ASOB for UK sports.

One suggestion. Do not choose Zuku format.

This is a shame to hear, but also pretty good news at the same time. PJS has become one of my favorite blogs on the internet, and it'll definitely be a shame seeing it go. At the same time, another site to actually report on the happenings in Golden Gopher athletics will be great, since we all know the newspapers are mediocre at best. I can't wait to see this new site, and look forward to reading it in the future.

As for coverage, I'd definitely love to see more men's baseball coverage. I love baseball (hell, I'm in college with the goal of working in baseball), but haven't ever really gotten into college baseball due to it's lack of coverage. In that sense, any sort of coverage would be nice.

I'd also like to see some more hockey coverage for the entirety of the season. Ever since The Sports Guy has come on, hockey coverage has improved drastically, and it's been fun to read. I've never been much of a hockey person, but am debating getting season tickets next year, so I'd definitely love to see the improved hockey coverage continue.

Good luck, dude. Just don't forget us lowly bloggers. As far as advice, I'd recommend linking to this awesome sight I found called Down with Goldy whenever possible. It kicks ass.

FOT, I consider that to be as big a compliment as one could give. I have tremendous respect for ASoB.

WWWWWW, It's still going to be a blog. We just also hope--maybe it will be fruitless--to do some original reporting. And of course you'll get a link, provided you ante up the $50 link fee!!! :-)

Alex, I think you'll see some baseball coverage and hopefully some puck coverage. I'm glad Sports Guy has helped me out here in that department. I've hesitated to write about hockey because I know absloutely nothing about the sport.

We're in the design process now, and it could be ready in the coming weeks, or if we're not happy with the design, we'll push it back and start over.

Jon does a great job of posting on Gopher Baseball already - may be worth working together.

Jon does a great job covering most everything under the sun! It amazes me how he keeps up with it all, and presumably has a day job!

PJS is an amazing blog that started with a passion. The new project will succeed.

As an insider, I've seen the new page and it will be exciting to read and a force of power in Minnesota sports coverage. May I suggest you get into NFL coverage, the Vikings. I know you are a fan and I think you would enjoy going after that team.

Enjoy.

Hey PJS.

I am sad to see this blog go in the future, but I am SOOO excited that you have stepped up to the plate to address this issue. By the way, "we're going to report so the Star Tribune doesn't have to!"--- I didn't know that they strib DID report! haha.. Anyways I have complained about the lack of coverage before on your blog and I appreciate that you are willing to expand your horizons. I don't mind if you put non-revenue sports on there, but to be honest, I am here mostly for your Gopher football and basketball news. That is just me. Just wanted you to know my opinion. Thanks for the hard work and dedication. Enjoy your break! and get some rest, you got some spring football to recap later! haha

I will be sad to see PJS go, but look forward to seeing the new venture. My one bit of advice would be to please keep the site simple for those of us who check in using our mobile devices.

Thanks snyde and TSax.

I've been pleased with how this site shows up on mobile devices. That hadn't been part of our planning but I'll see what I can do in that department.

LandryHat---Thanks for the kind words and the encouragement on the Vikings, but it's hard enough to cover coach Tim Brewster's football team. Adding Brad Childress' to the mix just might push me over the edge.
